EVENTS & TRAINING


Basic EMDR Training
Duncan

  • Session 1: June 12-14
  • Session 2: September 11-13

Participants will learn to apply Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) appropriately and effectively using the new curriculum mandated by the EMDR International Association. You must have a minimum Masters level training in a mental health discipline and belong to a professional organization with a code of ethics, or be a graduate student with appropriate supervision. Violence Issues in Our First Nations Communities
July 6-8
Penticton

Okanagan Nation Family Intervention & Services Society presents a conference on violence in BC's First Nations communities. Workshops include: children who witness abuse, grief issues, family healing, elder abuse and healthy families. Satir Transformational Systematic Therapy Training
September 30-October 7, 9am-5pm & 7-10pm
Cranbrook 

Summit Community Services and the Satir Institute of the Pacific are offering an 8-day intensive version of the Level 1 Satir Transformational Systemic Therapy Training. Program leader: Anne Morrison (MSW, RSW, RMFT). Cost: $900–1,000, depending on interest and registration. Registration deadline is June 15. Healthy Relationships

Tri-City Women's Resource Society and Westcoast Family Resources Society are offering a free 8-week group for women who want to learn more about themselves and relationships in their lives. Topics include: abuse, diversity, self-esteem, boundaries, personal power, conflict resolution, stress management and creating connections with others. Custody & Access Group: Support & Strategizing Sessions for Women
Mondays (beginning May 4), 10am–12pm
Vancouver

This group is open to all women who are experiencing abuse from a former intimate partner in dealing with custody and access issues. It provides a safe space for women to come together and gain support, information, resources and strategies to empower themselves. Onsite childcare and bus tickets provided. Soothing Stress
Wednesdays, June 24-July 29, 6-8pm
Port Coquitlam

A free 5-week group for women who have been affected by any type of abuse, who are interested in learning about the physical and emotional impacts of stress and who want to better manage daily life during stressful times. Journaling, art activities and visualization skills will be introduced. Contact Lyndsay at 604-941-7111 ext 104 for more information.


For Kids Sake
Port Coquitlam

  • 6-9 year olds: Mondays, July 6-August 24, 6:00-7:30pm

Parenting Workshops for Moms & Dads
Port Coquitlam

  • The Effects of Separation & Divorce on Children (July 14 or August 18, 6-9pm)
  • Effective Co-Parenting (July 28 or August 25, 6-9pm)

Support Group for Women in Abusive Relationships
Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30pm
Surrey

Join DiverseCity's drop-in support group for Punjabi women who are in abusive relationships. Bus tickets and snacks are provided. Contact the Family Services Administrative Assistant at 604-597-0205 ext 1202 to register.  


Healing Connections
Tuesdays, 12-2pm
East Vancouver

Join Battered Women's Support Services drop-in support group for women who are or have been physically, emotionally, sexually or financially abused in an intimate relationship. Topics include: communication, understanding feelings and how to express them, defining abuse, safety, dealing with the legal system and building healthy relationships.
