Position: This permanent, full-time (35 hours) victim services worker will work in Vancouver with multicultural victims of all crimes.

Description: Specialized community-based multicultural victim services worker to provide culturally sensitive justice related information and services to assist victims of all crimes (males and females) within the multicultural communities. Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct service by phone or in person to multicultural victims of crime
  • Receive referrals and maintain proactive contact with clients
  • Conduct interviews and assess the safety and the needs of the clients
  • Provide emotional and practical support
  • Provide legal options - information on civil and criminal law
  • Provide safety plans or other safety options that may not include involving the legal system
  • Provide case-specific information and assistance in court
  • Make appropriate referrals within the different communities
  • Assist clients in filling out Victim Impact Statements, Crime Victim Assistance application forms, third party reports and other forms
  • Keep and maintain client records.
Qualifications:
  • Diploma or university degree in social sciences, criminology or related fields
  • 3-5 years experience in providing support to victims of crime in the multicultural communities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills
  • Extensive knowledge of the criminal justice system
  • knowledgeable in violence against women issues and the impacts on the whole family
  • Knowledgeable on anti-oppression issues
  • Cross-culturally competency and the ability to work with the multicultural communities
  • Must possess advocacy skills
  • Ability to speak a second language
  • Ability to work under pressure independently or as a team member
  • Ability to recognize urgent work and priority accordingly
  • Must possess computer skills using Microsoft Word, e-mail, and the internet
  • A criminal record check will be conducted
