USER AGREEMENT FOR COORDINATION LISTSERV

This agreement is with the CCWS Project’s managing organization, the Ending Violence Association of British Columbia (EVA BC).

As a condition of my membership and participation on the Community Coordination Listserv, I agree to abide by the Community Coordination Listserv User Agreement and Guidelines, which are as follows:

1. I agree that the Community Coordination Listserv is to be used: for the exchange of information and news relevant to community coordination; to discuss and clarify issues affecting the work of community coordination; for requests for information from the community coordination sector eg. educational resources and contacts; and to develop common positions and strategies on the issues that are facing survivors of violence and the programs that serve them.

2. To the best of my ability, I will try to ensure that any advice or information that I post to the Community Coordination Listserv is legally accurate.

3. However, I understand that any legal information or advice that I receive from the Community Coordination Listserv is merely part of the efforts of the listserv members to help each other work effectively, and that I am solely responsible for any use I may make of this information or advice in my work.

4. I will not post any defamatory statement to the Community Coordination Listserv.

5. I understand that (for legal purposes) I am solely responsible for any statements which I post to the Community Coordination Listserv and I agree to hold EVA BC and the other members of the Community Coordination Listserv harmless from any legal consequences resulting from my statements.

6. I agree that, if a message to the Community Coordination Listserv defames me, I will not sue EVA BC, its staff, or members of the Community Coordination Listserv (other than the author of the defamatory email).

7. I agree that EVA BC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damages caused by the use, or operation of, the Community Coordination Listserv, or any websites or other services provided by EVA BC. I hereby release EVA BC, its staff and any institutions with which they are affiliated from any and all claims of any nature arising from such use.

8. I understand that EVA BC cannot guarantee that the Community Coordination Listserv will be error free or uninterrupted, or that it will meet any specific requirements that I may have.

9. To protect the confidentiality of my own and other members’ clients, I will not post the name of a client or any information that might identify a client, in a message to the Community Coordination Listserv.

10. I understand that the Community Coordination Listserv is not to be used to ask direct questions of EVA BC or any member program and that if I have specific questions or concerns that I shall address them directly with that party.

11. I understand that EVA BC, through the Moderator, is responsible for monitoring the Community Coordination Listserv and that any content that is in contravention of the stipulations of the Community Coordination User Agreement and Guidelines will not be posted to the Community Coordination Listserv.

12. I agree that when posting content on the Community Coordination Listserv that I am acting as a representative of my program and that if my post is in contravention of the Community Coordination User Agreement and Guidelines, that my program’s membership in the Community Coordination Listserv could be affected.

13. I understand that if my post is in contravention of the Community Coordination User Agreement that the Moderator will contact me and my program’s contact person by e-mail to alert me that the post has not been put through to the Community Coordination Listserv and to explain why the post was in contravention of the Community Coordination Listserv User Agreement and Guidelines.

14. I understand that if my program is found to be in contravention of the Community Coordination User Agreement 3 times within a 2 month period that my program’s membership in the Community Coordination Listerv could be suspended for a period of up to 3 months.

15. I agree that if EVA BC makes any changes to the Community Coordination Listserv User Agreement and Guidelines that I will abide by them. In the case that I do not agree to abide by the new Community Coordination User Agreement and Guidelines stipulations, I agree that I will immediately alert EVA BC in writing.

16. I agree that I will endeavour to follow the Guidelines for Members (below).

Guidelines

We hope that the Community Coordination Listserv will provide community coordination workers with a useful forum for information sharing, discussion of vital sectoral issues and increasing collective knowledge. At the same time, we want to make sure that the Community Coordination Listserv is not bogged down with unnecessary or inappropriate posts. Please follow the guidelines below to ensure that the Community Coordination Listserv remains a useful, issues based and stress-free forum. The Community Coordination Listserv Moderator is here to remind members of stipulations and guidelines as time goes on; however, it is your responsibility to do your best to maintain them.

Membership

Membership is restricted to workers in community coordination. This restriction is meant to help keep the Community Coordination Listserv focused on issues relevant to the work of community coordination.

Confidentiality

The Community Coordination Listserv is NOT a confidential forum.

Although the Community Coordination Listserv is not confidential, we ask that you respect the privacy of other members who post messages. Do not copy any message from the Community Coordination Listserv to a non-member without the permission of the author.

Do not post the name of any client, or any information that could identify a client.

Think carefully before sharing personal information about yourself such as your home address or phone number.

Message Content

It is very important that the Community Coordination Listserv be efficient and useful. Any message sent to the Community Coordination Listserv should contain original, relevant information or a relevant question posed to the sector as a whole.

Please only post messages that are specifically concerned with anti-violence work.

When replying to listserv messages, if you click the reply button to the message you received from the listserv, your response will also be directed to the entire listserv. If you intend for your message to be a reply to the individual who posted the listserv message, please copy the sender’s e-mail address into a separate e-mail and reply directly to them.

Please do not post: • jokes; • chain mail; • virus warnings; • solicitation of funds for your organization/business/services; • promotions of your business/services – please remember that this is a province wide forum and is not suited for advertising local events – unless the event would be of benefit to other members in sharing ideas that could be easily adapted to other communities. • advertisement of job or board position vacancies; • messages that are not substantive, for example, posts that simply say "thanks", “ditto” or "I agree". An appropriate post would pair a sentiment with a substantive statement, for example: “Thank you, that protocol will be helpful in my community and I’m going to pass it on to my VAWIR committee”.

Out of Office Reply notices will not be posted by the moderator.

Message Format

Please limit the length of your posts. If you are referring to an article in your message, either quote briefly from it or direct others to where they can read it themselves. If there is an article which turns out to be of interest to all members we may be able to add it to the website.

Etiquette

It is easy to create and send a message, but since you cannot take back something you wish you had not said, take a moment to reflect before clicking the "send” button. If in doubt, save the message as a draft, wait a few hours and then reconsider it. Ask yourself whether you would say the same thing to someone out loud.

If you disagree with another listserv member, please be polite and respectful. Please do not make negative assumptions about other members’ honesty or motivations. Of course, members may not post defamatory, harassing, harmful, obscene, offensive, or knowingly false information to the Community Coordination Listserv.

Is my Post Best Suited for the Listserv?

Sometimes discussions are better continued outside the context of the listserv. This may be the case if the topic is highly confidential or sensitive, or if two or more members have begun a discussion that is outside the area that the listserv is meant to discuss. In these cases, it is asked that members connect with one another directly and not use the listserv. At the same time, if it is unclear whether another Community Coordination Listserv member is comfortable with being emailed directly, please ask permission first.
