Women Being Arrested Backgrounder

This Community Coordination for Women's Safety (CCWS) Backgrounder, "Women Being Arrested", was originally released in September 2007 under the title "Dual Arrest in Cases of Relationship Violence".

In recent years, CCWS and EVA BC have received numerous reports from communities of cases involving the arrest of both parties in relationship violence situations. This backgrounder provides information on the issue of women being arrested in cases of relationship violence that includes a discussion on the gendered nature of relationship violence and a review of existing policies.  It also updates the reader on the work of CCWS to address this issue.

Info Bulletin: Cuts to Legal Aid

On July 22, 2009, the Legal Services Society (LSS) announced additional funding cuts to Legal Aid that effectively discontinue extended services for clients receiving referrals. This means that a woman who is leaving an abusive relationship and has exhausted the Legal Aid hours she was granted will automatically be denied any request for further service.

This Information Bulletin offers strategies for helping women in this situation.
